2008 Battle Of The Atlantic
Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia
Ocean Lanes
March 15, 2008

The much talked about Battle of the Atlantic (BOTA) round robin event took place in conjunction with the 2nd amateur tournament of the year in beautiful (even in winter) Tatamagouche. This event was our final round robin as the BOTA format will now be based on ranking and individual challenges to determine the #1 contender.

Our 2nd amateur tournament and our long awaited Battle of the Atlantic round robin took place in Tatamagouche at Ocean Lanes. It’s been quite some time since the NSAWA ventured up to that part of Nova Scotia and it was great to be back there!
Ocean Lanes is under new management and they were very accommodating to us. We had a great turn out with a ton of new faces and even a surprise visit…from a previous Canadian Champion from years past!

Ivan Barker is back at the table and pulling for Team Northern NS. This guy had broken his back, spent some time in a wheel chair and was told he’d never walk again. 3 years ago he got up out of his chair and now he’s back Arm Wrestling!! Look out guys, especially you heavy weights!

We were only able to run the light and middle weight classes as 2 of our 4 heavy weights couldn’t make this event. There will be another event to run the heavy weights and you don’t want to miss that. It will be a first of its kind and you won’t believe the venue that we have lined up (more to come on this) No real major surprises on Saturday at Ocean Lanes.

Middle weight went much as expected but there was some upset on the light weight class where the favorite to win, Trever Weatherbee, placed 3rd under Artie and Ed. The grip that the BOTA uses was most definitely a factor in that!
