December 2009
With 2009 coming to an end close it has been both an
exciting year and a trying year. We had many successes with
5 Canadian Titles and many armwrestlers placing top three at
Nationals. We've had several new faces coming out on a
regular basis which is great to see and these new guys
entered with quite a splash.
However with the Nationals being run at the end of June
instead of the normal Labour Day weekend it played havoc
with our schedule and we had to move our Provincials and
cancel our regular stop at the South Shore Ex. Also it was
disappointing that we put up the largest payday in Canadian
history for a single class but could not get armwrestlers
from Quebec and Ontario to come down.
At our annual General Meeting we decided many things.
- To stay eligible for Battle of the Atlantic you must come out to a
competition at least once every 6 months. Failure to do so
will have you dropped from the standings.
- Our Provincials will move to Middleton in 2010.
- We will be creating a new Year End Award. A Strong Hand Hold competition
will be held at every tournament and your cumulative times
will determine the Year end Award winner.
- Entry Fee for Atlantics, Provincials and Ranking tournament will
increase to $15. All other competitions will remain at $10
per entry.
We will run a Referee Seminar February 6 at Acadia Hall in
Sackville.
Our Year End Award winners were:
Rookie of the Year - Ralphie Bayers
Most Dedicated - Shaun Deveau
Most Improved - Terrence Wrigley
Arm Wrestler of the Year - Shaun Deveau
Top Team - Halifax
Finally congratulations to Sylvio Bourque on winning his
first World Championship in the 75kg Grand Masters Left Hand
Class at the World Championships in Italy.
